HEROES AND ZEROES

People who go out of their way to help the homeless and poor are “heroes,” but we also have people who make life miserable for the most vulnerable in our society, they are “zeroes.”

Bruce Springsteen is a HERO for his endless support of food banks throughout the country.

The folks at Glide Memorial United Methodist Church are HEROES for helping the homeless and poor in San Francisco for over 40 years!

Julius Walls, CEO of the Greyston Bakery, is a HERO for hiring homeless people, former substance abusers, and ex-cons to work in his bakery in Yonkers, NY. The profits from the bakery are used to help fund day care centers, health clinics and counseling services. Why isn't this guy the Mayor of New York?

Harry Chapin was a HERO up until the day he died , Harry did endless concerts to raise money for the poor and hungry.

NYPD Officer Eduardo Delacruz is a HERO for refusing to arrest a homeless man for being homeless. For his bravery, Officer Delacruz was suspended from duty. New York mayor/billionaire Michael Bloomberg defended the suspending of officer Delacruz.

Congresswoman Julia Carson is a HERO for introducing her bill the “Bringing America Home Act” to end homelessness in the United States. If passed, the Bringing America Home Act would provide affordable housing, job training, civil rights protections, vouchers for child care and public transportation, emergency funds for families facing eviction, increased access to health care for all.

Former New York attorney James Stephens is a HERO for serving food to the homeless in San Diego, CA, even though it’s illegal! Stephens left his big money-making job in New York  to help the homeless, good for you Jim!

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman is a ZERO. The shelters in Las Vegas are full, so people are sleeping on the streets.  From suggesting homeless people might be happier in an old jail to advocating sweeps downtown to rid the area of undesirables, Goodman's bigotry has shocked and awed. No wonder Las Vegas was named "The Meanest City" in 2003.

Officer Mike Wohn is a HERO , he works for the Port Authority in New York and he helps the homeless. That’s a real American.

The Honolulu police are ZEROES for kicking homeless people, including homeless mothers and children out of a park.

The LAPD are ZEROES for sweeping homeless people out of their meager tents and destroying what little they own.
